The North Wind and the Sun had a quarrel about which of them was the stronger. While they were disputing, a traveler came along wrapped in a warm cloak.
O Vento Norte e o Sol tiveram uma discussão sobre qual dos dois era o mais forte. Enquanto discutiam, um viajante passou por ali, envolto numa capa quentinha.
They agreed that the one who first made the traveler take off his cloak should be considered stronger than the other.
Combinaram que aquele que primeiro conseguisse fazer o viajante tirar a capa seria considerado o mais forte dos dois.
Then the North Wind blew as hard as he could, but the harder he blew, the more closely the traveler wrapped his cloak around him; and at last the North Wind gave up the attempt.
Então o Vento Norte soprou com toda a força que tinha, mas quanto mais forte soprava, mais o viajante apertava a capa ao redor do corpo; até que, por fim, o Vento Norte desistiu da tentativa.
Then the Sun shone out warmly, and immediately the traveler took off his cloak.
