This page explains how to delete data associated with your Storyteller account and app usage,
in line with Google Play's Data Safety requirements. It complements our
Privacy Policy.
In short: signing in is optional. If you never signed in, nothing is stored on
our servers and uninstalling the app removes everything. If you signed in - with an email
account or anonymously - you can delete your account and all synced data yourself, instantly,
from the Account screen.
1. Data you can remove yourself, right now
Uninstall the app - removes all local, on-device data immediately:
downloaded stories/audio/dictionary files, reading settings, local vocabulary/progress not
yet synced, and any daily-reminder schedule.
Don't sign in - if you'd rather keep everything local-only, simply use the
app without an account; no learning data is ever sent to our servers.
2. Deleting your account and synced data
If you have signed in at least once (with an email account or anonymously), the following
data may be stored under your account in our database:
Your account itself (email address, if you created an email account) and a small profile
record (email, display name if any, whether the account is anonymous)
Mini-game results (high scores, play counts, Brick Breaker level progress and coins)
Preferred: delete it yourself, in the app
Open Storyteller and go to the Account screen.
Tap "Delete account" and confirm.
This immediately and permanently deletes all of the data listed above and your Firebase
Authentication account (including your email address). There is no 30-day wait - it takes
effect right away.
Fallback: request deletion by email
Use this only if you can no longer access the app (e.g. you uninstalled it or lost the
device) and can't use the in-app option above.
Email origvu@gmail.com
with the subject line Data deletion request.
If you created an email account, send the request from (or include) that email address.
For an anonymous account, include the approximate date you used the app and the
device/platform (Android) - this helps us locate the right account, since no email or name
is tied to an anonymous one.
We will delete the associated account and data within
30 days of receiving your request and confirm by
email once complete.
3. What gets deleted vs. what may remain
Deleted: your account and all data listed in Section 2.
May remain briefly: crash reports and analytics events, which are not
linked to your email and are retained per Firebase's standard retention windows.
4. How in-app deletion works
The "Delete account" button on the Account screen deletes your synced data
first, then your Firebase Authentication account itself - in that order, since account data can
only be removed while the account still exists. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Afterward the app returns you to the sign-in screen; nothing is recoverable, including if you
sign back in with the same email later (that creates a brand-new, empty account). Data still on
your device stays there until you uninstall the app.
