Kiran has to choose between his cousin's birthday party and his friend's camping trip on the same Saturday.
Kiran got two invitations for the same weekend. His cousin's birthday party was on Saturday. His friend's camping trip was also on Saturday.
Kiran wanted to go to both. He looked at his calendar for a long time.
He called his cousin first. "I really want to come," Kiran said. "But I'm not sure about my plans yet."
His cousin sounded a little sad but understood. "It's okay," she said. "Just let me know soon."
Kiran thought about his choice all evening. The camping trip only happened once a year. It was with a small group of friends.
His cousin's birthday only happened once a year too. Family mattered a lot to him.
In the end, Kiran chose the birthday party. Camping trips happened often, but birthdays like this one did not.
He called his friend to explain. "I'm going to my cousin's birthday party instead," Kiran said. "I'm sorry. Can we go camping next month?"
His friend was disappointed but agreed. "No problem," he said. "We'll plan a trip for next month."
On Saturday, Kiran arrived at the party. He brought a gift for his cousin. She smiled and hugged him at the door.
