The Return with No Receipt

Elouise wants to return a duplicate gift with no receipt, and a store clerk finds another way to help.
Elouise receives a gift blender from her aunt. She already owns the exact same blender. She decides to return it for store credit.
She checks every drawer at home. She finds no receipt anywhere. She drives to the store anyway.
"I don't have a receipt," Elouise tells the clerk. A woman named Selby looks at the box.
"That's okay," Selby says. "I can look it up with your card." Elouise hands over her credit card.
Selby types the card number into the computer. The purchase appears on the screen right away. "Found it," she says.
"Great," Elouise says. "What happens now?" Selby prints a new receipt and hands it back.
"I can give you store credit today," Selby says. Elouise nods and picks a new item instead.
She chooses a set of kitchen towels. Selby scans the new item. The store credit covers the whole cost.
Elouise thanks Selby and walks out with her towels. She leaves the blender box at the counter. Her aunt never learns about the switch.
