Two Spots for the Tomato Plant

Amy gets a small tomato plant for her birthday. She wants to plant it in the backyard. She must choose the right spot.

One spot is next to the fence. It gets a lot of sun there. But it is far from the hose.

Another spot is near the back door. It is easy to water every day. But a big tree blocks some sun.

Amy walks between the two spots slowly. She looks up at the tree and the fence. Both spots seem fine in different ways.

Amy asks her father for advice. "Which spot do you like?" he asks. Amy thinks about both spots carefully.

Sun matters more for tomatoes, she decides. She picks the spot next to the fence. She carries a long hose over to it.

Amy digs a hole and plants the tomato. She waters it well on the first day. She checks the sunny spot every morning.

Weeks later, small yellow flowers appear. The plant grows taller every single week. Small green tomatoes start to form on it.

Every day, Amy fills her bucket happily. She walks it over to the fence.
